Rural country garden with artsy flagstone walkway

The rural homeowner had a long narrow side yard section near her house that just had a few potted plants sitting on plain sandy dirt. She wanted a garden area that was unique with a free-flowing design, but she is also a person who changes her mind and moods frequently, so the flagstone pieces were not set in concrete as she wished, allowing her the freedom to change the look of her garden area in the future. ... I mixed many bags of soil and mulch, working it into the ground to get the dirt where it could grow plants. ... The photos show this project as it was unfolding; they do not show the finished garden area after it was cleaned and with the additional flowers and plants.

We used black rubber landscape edging to line the flowerbeds.

These larger pieces of flagstone below (at the end of the flowerbed) were put in by another company. Unfortunately for the homeowner, many of the stones and mortar joints started cracking not long after they had been installed, but overall, it looked nice.

These last photos were taken after it had rained. The colors of the flagstone pieces really pop. ... Prescott got a lot of rain during that time which made the grass and weeds grow quickly, but it was also great for her plants.
